Selected Canon Law Collections, ca. 500–1234

Formerly employed by User:Christof Rolker to help with the technical implementations (both on the search interface as well as in the wiki). Occasionally still contributing, so if you notice a problem with one of my edits on the wiki which you think might be part of a bigger problem, please use my discussion page.

Things that I noticed might need manual fixing

QIDs for collections

I cobbled together some code which found QIDs for all "canonical collections" on wikidata. I then sorted into colls,

  1. where the wikidata page had links to clavis and clavis had the qid
  2. where the wikidata page had links to clavis, but clavis didn't have a qid
  3. where the wikidata page had no links to clavis, but clavis had the qid
  4. where the wikidata page had no links to clavis and clavis didn't have a qid
  5. where I couldn't automatically find the clavis page to the wikidata page (meaning the page title wasn't the same)

I then automatically added the links in wikidata using QuickStatements. Where there wasn't a qid in clavis I then tried to find out if an infobox exists for that collection at all. The idea here is that it would make sense to update those at once, but those without an infobox need more information that would take more effort to find automatically. Unfortunatley, I didn't get around to actually writing that part of the code and then double checking it. So instead the lists are below:

  • The collection Collectio_Hadriano-Hispanica doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q127257464.
  • The collection Capitula Angilramni doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q1034702.
  • The collection Collectio Hibernensis doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q1108962.
    • overview article for a collection extant in many versions - qid matching is delicate but in the long run doable --Christof Rolker (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2025 (CEST)
  • The collection Collectio Dacheriana doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q1156677.
    • overview article for a collection extant in many versions - qid matching is delicate but in the long run doable --Christof Rolker (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2025 (CEST)
  • The collection Collectio Dionysiana doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q25196725.
    • overview article for a collection extant in many versions - qid matching is delicate but in the long run doable --Christof Rolker (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2025 (CEST)
  • The collection Diversorum patrum sententiae doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q112980280.
  • The collection Breviarium Hipponense doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q113132876.
  • The collection Polycarpus doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q115191115.
    • overview article for a collection extant in many versions - qid matching is delicate but in the long run doable --Christof Rolker (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2025 (CEST)
  • The collection Liber decretalium Dionysii doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q127603300.
  • The collection Collectio_Albigensis doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q127691996.
  • The collection Collectio_Ratisbonensis doesn't have an infobox, but its qid would be Q128225812.
    • a letter collection, not canonical collection, for which we do not do infoboxes (yet). For later --Christof Rolker (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2025 (CEST)

The last thing I did was to automatically search for all the collections which didn't have a clavis page with the exact same title as the label of the collection in wikidata. The ones which returned at least one result are listed in the form "(Wikidatalabel, Qid): PossibleClavisPages" below (didn't check for redirects, so might be duplicates):

The ones where no search results showed up at all where:

  • ('Clementine Constitutions', 'Q428439')
  • ('Decretals of Gregory IX', 'Q749168')
  • ('Extravagantes Johannis XXII', 'Q751072')
  • ('Extravagantes communes', 'Q1385439')
  • ('Liber Sextus', 'Q1822856')
  • ('Apostolic Canons', 'Q2385311')
  • ('Quinque compilationes antiquae', 'Q2713165')
  • ('Canons of Hippolytus', 'Q5033407')
  • ('Collectio canonum quadripartita', 'Q5146072')
  • ('Apostolic Tradition', 'Q11273929')
  • ('Collectio canonum Quesnelliana', 'Q16827374')
  • ('Synodicon Orientale', 'Q21272651')
  • ('Collectio LX titulorum', 'Q113296841')
  • ('Synagoga L titulorum', 'Q113320121')
  • ('Canones Romanorum ad Gallos episcopos', 'Q118461652')

In theory at least parts of this could be reused for some sort of automatation process. But keep in mind that this whole project was the result of me wanting to learn a few things and is in no way optimized, be it for effectiveness or reusability.

SPARQL-Query for finding all canoncial law collections

#title: Items in law collections
SELECT DISTINCT ?item ?itemLabel
WHERE {
    ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5146117; # Any instance of a canonical law collection

    SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],de" }
}

Before I can properly use this, all pages from Kategorie:Kanones-Sammlung need to be made instances of Q5146117.

Also, keep Wikidata:How to use data on Wikimedia projects in mind.
