Città del Vaticano, Archivio Apostolico Vaticano, Reg. Vat. 2 (olim Archivio Segreto Vaticano) is the register of Gregory VII, the earliest register of papal letters to have survived completely in the original. It contains the Dictatus papae.
While many canonical collections were compiled during Gergory's pontificate, including several of them in his immediate environment, canonists famously were reluctant to include his letters in their collections. However, Deusdedit for his collection worked both with the register and the original letters, providing important clues that the register version sometimes differs from the letters actually sent.
