Wolfenbüttel, HAB, Cod. Guelf. 212 Gud. lat. contains very diverse canon law materials including the Collectio IX librorum and a Burchard abbreviation.

Provenance and Codicology

Prov. Saint-Germain.

Parchment; 65 folios; 225x140 mm; saec. XII2/2 (Sdralek), maybe saec. XIIin (Brommer), saec. XIII (Kéry, Trump)

Contents

Sdralek divided the materials (all written by one hand) into five sections:

  1. fol. 1r—48r a collection in nine books ( = Collectio IX librorum in Wolfenbüttel, HAB, Gud. lat. 212)
  2. fol. 48r—49r conciliar canons (Rome 1099, Poitiers 1100)
  3. fol. 49r—51v "eine Canonessammlung von 77 Kapiteln" (= apparently the Burchard abbreviation analysed by Brommer; clearly not the Collectio LXXVII capitulorum mentioned by Kéry, Collections p. 183)
  4. fol. 51v—59v "eine kanonistische Excerptensammlung" including twelfth-century material like the Council of Benevent 1108 canon Ex divinis preceptis, printed by Sdralek p. 138 from this manuscript (fol. 59r) (= ?)
  5. fol. 59v—65r a collection of 33 letters, mostly pertaining to the diocese of Thérouanne, many by Pope Paschal II

Note that the description of the Burchard abbreviation in Brommer, Kurzformen p. 31 seems to match Sdralek's third item, but the folio numbers are that of Sdralek's fourth item:

Die möglicherweise im Bistum Terouanne Anfang des 12. Jh. entstandene Handschrift überliefert auf fol. 51v-59v eine kleine Kurzform in 77 Kanones mit Zitaten aus den Büchern I-III, IX-XI, XIII und XV-XVI [...]
