This collection of 54 (Ewald: 53) letters of Gregory the Great was compiled by a certain Paulus (at Corbie). Ewald dubbed it Collectio Pauli or P for short. He knew five manuscripts containing P but no other collection of Gregory's letters, and another 14 that combine it with the Collectio CC epistolarum (see Collectio C + P). The circulation of this C+P collection north of the Alps only is an important argument for the place of origin of high medieval canonical collections; Fowler-Magerl used it in establishing the non-Italian origin of 74T. For combinations of P with ρ/e, see Registrum Gregorii.

Norberg, Praefatio pp. VIII-IX collated the following copies of C:

  1. "Leningradensis F.v.I.7" = Saint Petersburg, Russian National Library, F.v.I.7 = Pa1
  2. "Bambergensis 601" = ?, according to Norberg an apograph of the Saint Petersburg mansucript
  3. "Parisiensis 6638 = Paris, BnF, lat. 6638
  4. "Coloniensis 91" = Köln, Dombibliothek, Cod. 92 = Pb1
  5. "Vindobonensis 934 = Pb2
  6. Dusseldorpiensis B, 79 = Pb3
