In 1870, the old Bibliothèque municipale (BM) at Strasbourg was destroyed by German troops, and its medieval manuscripts perished in the fire. The Germans opened a new library in 1871 which in 1926 became the Bibliothèque Nationale et Universitaire. There also is a municipal library which since 2008 is known as the Médiathèque André Malraux.

On the Clavis Wiki, the pre-1870 Bibliothèque municipale is treated as a separate library. All manuscripts last known to have been held by it (currently 3 manuscripts having an article on this Wiki) are found in the respective Category:Manuscript in Strasbourg, BM. These mansucripts are all presumed lost.
