This page lists all templates used on this Wiki; see also the relevant Category:Template.

Templates (as in all WikiMedia Wikis) are special pages that are embedded in other pages. To do so, one must enter the name of the template in double curly brackets; when the page loads, the phrase will be replaced by the template content. This is useful if the same text should be displayed on many pages, especially if you want to change it later without having to change all the pages displaying it. Even better, the template can process parameters if the page in question provides arguments. This can be used, for example, to generate page-specific links (see below for examples).

Link to a collection (in the database)

Names of authors (in small caps)

Template:Author

Use this template to display author names (in bibliographical references) in small caps.

Example:

Templates for page-specific links to digitized secondary literature

Use these templates to create page-specific links to the digitized version of the works of reference listed below. To do so, copy&paste the piece of code highlighted ingrey (for example [{{FM|PAGENUMBER}}] ), insert it into any article you write (using Edit source mode), and replace PAGENUMBER with the page number you want to cite and link to. Once you save your changes, only the page number will be visible to normal readers, but it contains a page-specific link to the digitized book and (like all links) appears in blue. See below for examples.

Fowler-Magerl pages

Template:FM

Use this template to cite the 2005 Clavis handbook. A frequent use of this template are page breaks in square brackets found in all articles that retain Linda's text.

Example: ... Canon eight is represented only by [{{FM|124}}] the incipit and ... in the code looks like this:

Kéry pages

Template:Kery

Use this template to cite Lotte Kéry's HMCL volume.

Example:

... for this collection see {{Author|Kéry}}, Collections p. {{Kery|204}} ...

results in:

... for this collection see Kéry, Collections p. 204 ...

In fact, there are three versions of the same template so you can spell "Kery" with no accent (Template:Kery ), with the (right) accent (Template:Kéry), or with the wrong one (Template:Kèry). We can clean this up later, for the time being, just use the template and do not worry about spelling issues.

Maassen pages

Jasper/Fuhrmann pages

Use either of these templates to create page-specific links to Jasper/Fuhrmann, Papal Letters.

Example:

Typing in the Edit source mode either the following phrase:

... for this collection see {{Author|Jasper}}, Beginning p. {{JasperFuhrmann|23}} ...

or

... for this collection see {{Author|Jasper}}, Beginning p. {{Jasper|23}} ...

results (after your changes have been saved) in:

Kuttner, Repertorium pages

Template:Kuttner creates page-specific links to the digital copy of Kuttner‘s Repertorium at archive.org.

Example:

Duggan, Decretal Collections pages

Template:Duggan creates page-specific links to the digital copy of Duggan‘s Twelfth Century Decretal Collections at archive.org.

Melnikas, Corpus pages

The three templates Template:Melnikas, Template:Melnikas2, and Template:Melnikas3 create page-specific links to the digital copy of the respective volume of Melnikas's Corpus at archive.org.

Examples:

By using a pipe (|), you can also have a string of your choice displayed instead of the page number, which is particularly nice with the figures and/or unpaginated pages:

Note that you need an Internet Archive (or Google) account and have to be logged in to view most pages of the three volumes.

Histoire

Template:Histoire1 and Template:Histoire2 create page-specific links to the digital copies of the respective volume of Fournier/Le Bras, Histoire.

Examples:

On Pseudoisidore see {{Histoire1|127}} results in On Pseudoisidore see Histoire 1.127 (with a page-specific link).

Likewise, {{Histoire2|14}} results in Histoire 2.14.

Studia Gratiana

Template:SG06 (Will and Adversi on incunabla) and Template:SG07 (Rabotti, Sydow, etc. on Gratian mss) create page-specific links to the digital copies of the respective volume of the Studia Gratiana.

Examples:

On [[Alessandria, Biblioteca Civica, 4]] see ({{author|Rabotti}}, Elencho pp. {{SG07|88}}-89 results in On Alessandria, Biblioteca Civica, 4 see (Rabotti, Elencho pp. 88-89 (with a page-specific link).

Jaffé numbers

There are six templates for Jaffé numbers: three for genuine letters (Template:JK, Template:JE, and Template:JL) and three for forged ones (Template:JK+, Template:JE+, and Template:JL+).

They all produce a link to the respective page of the second edition of Jaffé, Regesta pontificum.

Example:

The collection contains {{JK+|12}}, {{JE|123}}, {{JE+|1366}}, and {{JL|5393}}.

results in:

The collection contains JK †12, JE 123, JE †1366, and JL 5393.

Note that all six template work for all Jaffé numbers - including bogus combinations like "JE 123" instead of JK †123. Thus, please make sure you use the right prefix, i.e. JK for all letters up to 590, JE for the letters up to 882, JL for the later letters, preceded by + if and only if the letter is marked as forged in the Regesta pontificum.

In addition, all pages referring to a given papal letters by using one of these six templates are placed in a category together with all other pages mentioning the same papal letter, so there is a separate category for every papal letter; all these categories in turn are found in the Category:Papal letters by Jaffé number.
