There are two collections of decretal letters from the time of Leo I, the ''Canones urbicani'' (compiled probably in Gaul) and the ''[[Epistolae decretales]]'' (compiled in Rome). Both are lost; their content and structure can only be inferred from later collections. On this basis, scholar assume the Canones urbanici contained five papal letters, two from Innocent ({{JK|293}}, 303), one from Zosimus ({{JK|339}}), and two from Celestine ({{JK|369}} and 371).
