After the war, monks briefly returned before the monastery was dissolved in 1950 and the books given to [[České Budějovice, Jihočeská vědecká knihovna]]. The Cisterian Abbey of Vyšší Brod (Hohenfurth in German) was founded in the thirteenth century. It was shut down by the Gestapo in 1941.
