The Biblioteca de Catalunya is the national library of Catalonia. Its history goes back to 1907, when its predecessor, the library of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans was founded. In the course of the 20th century, it changed both its status and its name several times, until it became the national library of Catalonia in 1981, since when it also has its current name.
