| Title | Abelard, Sic et non |
|---|---|
| Century | saec. XII |
| European region of origin | Northern France |
| Author | Christof Rolker |
Abelard's famous Sic et non was not compiled as a legal collection, but it draws on the same materials and formal sources as contemporary canon law collections; all in all, Abelard cites some 1,700 excerpts taken from the writings of Saint Augustine, the Bible, Jerome, but also papal letters, conciliar canons, and similar materials; among his formal sources was in all probability the Panormia, which makes Abelard one of the first known scholars to cite from this collection.
