Note that the archive of the chapter until 1956 was kept at Valère castle just outside Sion, and sometimes is referred as Valère archive in the older literature. The manuscripts (more than 100 medieval codices) did not have shelfmarks at the time; the 1954 catalogue of Roman and canon law manuscripts in Swiss libraries, and Stickler's Iter Helveticum (in the 1958 Bulletin) thus refer to all Sion manuscripts as sine numero.
In 1958 it was moved to a new building next to the cathedral, together with the collection of manuscripts and incunabla of the chapter; today it is kept in the local State Archive.
