The national library in Saint Petersburg is one of the three national libraries of Russia.
The library was renamed several times since its auguration as Imperial Public Library in 1814. From 1917 to 1924, it was called Russian Public Library (Российская Публичная библиотека), and when the city was renamed Leningrad, Russian Public Library in Leningrad From 1932 to 1992, it was named after Michael Saltykow-Schtschedrin (Государственная Публичная библиотека им. М.Е.Салтыкова-Щедрина). Since 1991, the city is called Saint Petersburg again, and in March 1992, the library received its current name Russian National Library (Российская национальная библиотека, Rossijskaja nacional'naja biblioteka)
