Düsseldorf, ULB, E.3 (siglum D in the MGH edition of Regino) is a manuscript of 129 folios in 2 cols. and 26-42 lines (300 x 235 mm (235 x 180 mm)). The collation formula reads as follows: 16 quires, (IV-2)6 + 8 x IV70 + V80 + 6 x IV128 + I129. Quire signatures start at II15 through XVI129. The codex was probably produced in Werden in saec. X; that is also the place its provenance can be traced to. Its main part was written by a single hand in Caroline minuscule. Two later hands added a list of capitula before the main text (fols. 1va-6vb), who wrote in a late Caroline minuscule, possibly in the eleventh century.
Noteworthy are the corrections and emendations made at a later stage by a different scribe, who wrote in distinct light red ink. These must have been made less than a few decades after this codex's creation, as both the original and correcting hands seem to have originated from the same scriptorium. It may therefore also be dated to the tenth century based on the main hand.
