The Stadt- und Regionalbibliothek in Erfurt was created in 1969 as Wissenschaftliche Allgemeinbibliothek and in 1997 was given its present name. Its predecessors were the "Wissenschaftliche Bibliothek der Stadt Erfurt" and the "Stadt- und Bezirksbibliothek".
