Manuscript latin 3683 of the Bibliothèque nationale de France is a parchment manuscript from the mid-12th century, probably produced in the Abbey of Saint-Pierre in Moissac in south-western France. It contains Burchard's Liber decretorum.
Codicology
The manuscript consists of 160 folios, divided into 21 fascicles, mostly quaternions (see Dufour for further details), often bearing the catchword and measuring 360 x 235 mm. The layout is mainly full-page, except for the folios containing the indexes of the canons, which have a double-column mise-en-page; in both cases, there are 41 lines, and the ruling is drypoint.
The manuscript appears to have been written by a single copyist in praegothic script.
The decoration is very sober and consists of rubrics and small initials at the beginning of each canon, alternating in red and black. The initials at the beginning of each book are missing.
