General

Categories are useful to extract information from the Wiki, and for the reader to find relvant material. This page documents the categories used, and how to use them. Of course everyone is free to come up with new categories, but it would be could to document major changes here. For an overview of all categories, see https://beta.mgh.de/databases/clavis/wiki/index.php/Special:Categories To add a page to a category, simply insert the relevant tag, beginning "[[Category:...". Note that this text is invisible in the normal view (but one can see it if you edit a page).

Manuscripts

  • Date: Use [[Category:Manuscripts saec XII]] to tag manuscripts written in the twelfth century.
  • Is the MS digitized? If so, tag it by inserting [[Category:Digitized Manuscripts]] in the manuscript description page. If you want to see all mss in the category, have a look here: Category:Digitized Manuscripts
  • Note to self: use standard place names to localize collections. Categories can be structured (category tree). Same for dates.

Collections

  • Some descriptions refer to collections not yet contained in the database or, more frequently, to more than one collection in the database. Tagging these pages helps to improve the wiki. Use [[Category:Collections not in Clavis database]] and [[Category:Descriptions that need to be split]], respectively.
  • The database entries are based on modern editions (19th/20th c.), early prined books, or manuscripts. Use [[Category:Clavis entries based on modern edition]], [[Category:Clavis entries based on early printed book]], and [[Category:Clavis entries based on manuscript]].
