Firenze, BML, Ashburnham 1554
Firenze, BML, Ashburnham 1554 is a manuscript written in the late eleventh (Cushing) or twelfth century (Fournier: saec. XI 1/4; Mordek: saec. XII 1/2). It was "likely copied at a Benedictine monastery at (or near) Rome" (Cushing p. 322), but must have been taken to Tuscany early on, where it was used for the Collectio III librorum.
Fournier treated the manuscript as the sole copy of a collection in two parts (separated by non-canonical materials fol. 69-80). Fowler-Magerl treated the materials fol. 68-75 as last part of the Ashburnhamensis.
Based on Mordek, Fowler-Magerl, and Cushing, the manuscript seems to contain:
- fol. 1-11: a series of 24 texts including Ivo's Prologue ("written in a French hand" different from the rest), Gregory VII "In die resurrectionis" (Fowler-Magerl pp. 242-243), and Ivo's ep. 287 on the Eucharist (Cushing p. 322). These materials are drawn from sources different from those of the other two collections.
- fol. 12r-75v the only copy of the Collectio Ashburnhamensis (Fowler-Magerl, Cushing).
- fol. 76r-77v a list of popes up to Calixt II, a list of emperors from Octavian to Tiberius III, and list of provinces (Cushing p. 322).
- fol. 81r-83 lists of Roman cementeries and Roman saints (Cushing pp. 322-323).
- from fol 84r-139v "a long series of of widely transmitted conciliar canons ... which is not part of the collection itself" (Cushing), including African canons from the Collectio Hispana on fol. 99v-119v (Mordek)
